Unexplained Weight Loss and Diabetes

Intro

Diabetes is a disease that is characterized by an elevated blood glucose/sugar level. It is a chronic and deadly disease that can damage several organs in the body, if left untreated. Unexplained weight loss is a term used in describing a sudden decrease in body weight that occurs within a short period of time, without a change in diet or exercise.

A little change in your body weight –about 1 or 2 pounds- is normal. But if you lose more than ten pounds without exercise or changing your diet plan, it could be a sign of diabetes. If you notice any sudden loss in your body weight, especially if it is associated with an increase in thirst and an increase in urination, it is important to visit a doctor.
