Unexplained Weight Loss and Diabetes

Why does diabetes cause weight loss?

In people living with diabetes, there is a reduction in the function of an important hormone called Insulin. This hormone is important in the body because it allows your body to absorb and utilize glucose (sugar) for producing energy.

This disease leads to a buildup of sugar in your bloodstream instead of being converted to energy. Due to this, the cells of the body are unable to get glucose for energy production. The cells then look for other energy sources such as, fats and muscles, causing the unexplained weight loss.
