What Is Type 4 Diabetes?

Other terms related to diabetes

These are terms that are used to describe your specific condition. Your doctor will probably mention some of these terms when he is talking to you. They include:

  • Type 3c diabetes: This describes when your diabetes is caused by other conditions, such as pancreatic cancer and cystic fibrosis.
  • Monogenic diabetes: This describes any type of cancer that is caused by genetic change, such as neonatal diabetes and MODY.
  • Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA): it is thought to be a subtype of type 1 diabetes so it is also referred to as type 1.5 diabetes. It is also an autoimmune disease like type 1, what makes LADA different is that it progresses more slowly. It is usually misdiagnosed as type 2 diabetes because you may still be able to produce insulin for some time.
