10 Common Signs of Ear Infection (Otitis media)

Nausea and vomiting

Feeling nauseous and vomiting is quite common in ear infections. Infants can be seen vomiting during an ear infection, amongst other symptoms.

In extreme cases, permanent hearing loss may result from chronic ear infections. Usually, there’s a mild hearing loss that resolves. In infants, if this hearing loss persists, they can have delays in talking later on in life. Breastfed babies are less likely to come down with an ear infection. This is because breast milk contains antibodies that help them to fight microorganisms.

To prevent this condition, parents should ensure prompt treatment of their infants from any respiratory tract disease. School children should also be taught personal hygiene like washing of hands and sneezing properly.
