When to use a home remedy

The most effective home remedy for an earache depends on the cause. If your earache is caused by a cavity, your pain may persist until you see a dentist. However, if it is an ear infection, you can use a natural remedy to make the illness less severe as your body fights off the infection. It is important to contact your child’s pediatrician if your child has ear pain, especially if they are younger than 2 years. If your child is experiencing fever, or a fever that lasts for more than one day, it would help to seek immediate medical care. High fever in children is usually defined as:
- Children 3 months to 3 years old rectal 102ºF (38.9ºC) or greater
- Children of any age oral, rectal, or forehead 104ºF (40ºC) or greater
- Infants less than 3 months old rectal 100.4ºF (38ºC) or greater
You can contact your doctor for guidance on whether you can try home remedies or an antibiotic.
