Who Is Susceptible to Acute Otitis Media?
The following are risk factors for AOM:
- being between the ages of 6 and 36 months
- pacifier usage
- going to childcare
- bottle feeding as opposed to breastfeeding (in newborns)
- infants drinking while lying down
- being around smoke from cigarettes
- being subjected to air pollution at extreme levels
- experiencing elevation changes
- suffering climate change
- being in an icy environment
- having recently had a cold, flu, sinus infection, or ear infection
Additionally contributing to your child’s increased risk of AOM is genetics.
