Nail Removal

Sometimes the ingrown nail is too far gone to be salvaged with home remedies. In this case, removal of all or part of the affected nail [6] may be necessary. You shouldn’t perform this procedure yourself.
Your doctor or chiropodist (also called podiatrist) may use an anaesthetic on the affected area before removing the nail. They may remove part of the nail’s edges, the underlying nail bed, or some part of the middle growth plate.
Total removal of the toenail is reserved for severe cases of ingrown nails. This is only done when other options have been exhausted. Removing the entire toenail may increase your chances of infection. It may also cause your toenail to get misshapen as it grows back.
