Some Facts That You Should Know Are about Gout (Gouty Arthritis)

Swelling around the Affected Area

Swelling is a telltale sign of inflammation. The area around the affected joint usually swells up as a result of the inflammation caused by the deposited uric acid crystals. In patients with gout, swellings can be seen on the big toes, ankle, knees, and sometimes even on the elbows, fingers and wrists. The swellings are usually very painful.

Joint Immobility or Reduced Range of Motion

Another common symptom of this condition is the stiffness of the affected joints. This is usually as a result of the severe pain, swelling and tenderness. The patient will find it very difficult to move the affected joints and may avoid using the affected limb altogether.
