Risk Factors

Aside from the known causes of gout, certain risk factors predispose to the development of gout. They include;
Family History

People who have family members suffering from gout are likely to develop this condition as a result of inherited genetic abnormalities that may be responsible for decreased excretion of uric acid from the body.
Age

Gout rarely occurs in children and young adults but is a common occurrence in older people. In men, the disease is common in those aged about 30-50 while in women, it is common after menopause.
