10 Ways to Tame Tension Headaches

What Are the Symptoms of A Tension Headache?

A tension headache is usually accompanied by different symptoms. Symptoms of this type of headache include:

  • Pressure around your forehead
  • Dull head pain
  • Difficulty focusing
  • Fatigue [1] or irritability
  • Tenderness around your forehead and scalp
  • Absence of nausea or vomiting with the above symptoms

In most cases, the pain that accompanies tension headaches is usually mild or moderate. If the pain is intense, you might mistake your tension headache for migraine. Migraine is a type of headache that causes throbbing pain on one side or the two sides of your head. Migraines are usually accompanied by mild or severe pain, while tension headaches are mild to moderate. Migraines will get worse if you engage in physical activities, while tension headaches will not.

Certain symptoms such as nausea and vomiting which are present in migraine are absent in tension headaches. In some cases, people with tension headaches may become more sensitive to loud noises and light, similar to migraine attacks.
