Serious Health Conditions

Some health conditions like meningitis, stroke, and brain tumor may trigger pain in the head. There is a high likelihood for inflammations around the brain to cause aches, for example, meningitis. Meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges – cell membrane covers of the brain and spinal cord. The swelling occurs along the spinal cord and brain lines, leading to intense headaches, neck pains, and sensitivity to light. [16]
Sharp and intense pain in the head may occur during stroke as there’s a sudden cut in blood circulation to the brain. Stroke headaches are usually accompanied by numbness in certain parts of the body.
Also, large brain tumors often press against the cranial nerves and blood vessels, causing pain in the head. [17]
