Medicinal Herbs

Certain herbal remedies may assist in lowering blood pressure. To determine the dosages and elements in the herbs that are most effective, more research is necessary.
People take several herbs and plants to reduce blood pressure, such as:
- Castanospermum australe, the black bean
- (Uncaria rhynchophylla) cat’s claw
- Juice from celery (Apium graveolens)
- Hawthorn of China (Crataegus pinnatifida)
- (Cuscuta reflexa) huge dodder of ginger
- Blond psyllium, or Indian plantago
- Pine bark from the sea (Pinus pinaster)
- (Crinum glaucum) river lily
- Hibiscus sabdariffa, or roselle
- Sesamum indicum, or sesame oil
- Extract from lycopersicon esculentum, the tomato
- Umbrella tree bark (Musanga cecropioides)
- Particularly green and oolong tea (Camellia sinensis)
The use of herbal treatments to control blood pressure is not sufficiently supported by research.
Before taking herbal supplements, always consult your physician or chemist. Proper supervision is necessary to ensure they don’t interfere with your prescription medications.
