Congestive Heart Failure Life Expectancy

Determinants of prognosis

The prognosis for CHF is affected by a variety of factors, your doctor will be in the best position to describe you exact condition.

Some of the key elements generally determining the CHF outlook are as follows:

  • Your current age
  • what causes your CHF
  • If you take alcohol
  • gender
  • phase of the diagnosis
  • the ejection fraction of your heart
  • how often you’ve been admitted to the hospital for CHF symptoms [1]
  • if you have any additional medical conditions
  • your level of therapeutic response
  • how diligently you adhere to your treatment strategy

An older study published in 2008 [2] found that the presence of hypertension, diabetes, social and economic variables, and other risk factors increased the likelihood of CHF among African Americans compared to white and Hispanic people.
