Pain Relief

Over-the-counter drugs contain analgesics such as lidocaine [3] and benzocaine. These pain relievers do not enhance the treating process, and they only reduce any form of discomfort. Examples of pain relief drugs that can be sued to treat cold sores are; Orajel, Blistex, Cymex, and Anbesol. It is imperative to know that these pain reliefs do not have to be a medication; they could be a gel, ointment, or cream. They are placed on the sores with a Q-tip (these products must not be shared). If a patient applies any of these medications with a finger (like ibuprofen [4] or acetaminophen [5]), the hands must be washed with soap and water immediately.
