Hematuria(Blood in Urine): 10 Major Causes to Know

Vigorous exercises or workouts

Various factors cause exercise-induced hematuria. The intensity of the activity, the duration, and the hydration level of the performer are the triggering causes of blood in the urine.

High-intensity or vigorous exercises can cause trauma to the bladder. Dehydration or the breakdown of red blood cells that occurs when performing aerobics can also cause bloody urine.

Long-distance runners, usually over 10,000 meters are at a high risk of developing hematuria compared to other athletes.

Foods

Some foods can cause you to see blood in your urine. Beetroot, blackberries, blueberries, and rhubarb have been said to give your urine a red or pink color. There is no clear cause as to why these types of foods give the urine a bloody color. This type of bloody urine doesn’t require medical attention and often corrects itself after a few days when the food has passed through the digestive system.

Drinking lots of water and switching these triggering foods for foods, like cranberry juice, pomegranate juice, and green bananas help speed up recovery.
