Kidney Failure Symptoms & Treatments

Treatments for kidney failure

There are majorly two treatments for kidney failure, include:

  • Dialysis
  • Kidney transplant

The dialysis treatments or transplanted kidneys will take over some of the work of your damaged kidneys and remove wastes and extra fluid from your body. This will make many of your symptoms better.

What is dialysis?

Dialysis is a highly recommended treatment for kidney failure. The treatment involves cleaning your blood when your kidneys are not able to. It helps your body remove waste and extra fluids in your blood. It does some of the work that your kidneys did when they were healthy. A healthy, working kidney can remove fluid and waste 24 hours a day. Dialysis can only do 10-15% of what a normal kidney does.

There are 2 types of dialysis, they include:

  • hemodialysis
  • peritoneal dialysis (PD)
