Sweet potatoes
Sweet potatoes contain vitamins and minerals (potassium). The presence of these substances in sweet potatoes helps regulate the sodium levels in the body and decreases its effects on the kidney. They are just like white potatoes. However, they contain more fibers that help them break down slowly, increasing the level of insulin in the body. It is essential to know that sweet potato has high potassium levels, so anyone diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD) [1] or on dialysis should reduce the amount they consume. Sweet potato should be consumed moderately because excess consumption can have adverse effects.
