Leukemia Stem Cell Transplantation

Before

Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation

Before your doctor proceeds on autologous stem transplant, you will receive a medication that causes your body to produce more stem cells and transfer stem cells from your bone marrow to bone. The stem cells will be frozen or isolated until they are needed, while you receive a high dose of chemotherapy [1] or radiation therapy. [2]

Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation

Before you receive allogeneic stem cell treatment, you will undergo pre-transplant treatment. This will involve a high dose of chemotherapy and sometimes radiation therapy. The purpose of these therapies is to kill as many cancer cells as possible.
