Fatty Liver (Hepatic Steatosis): Most Common Signs and Symptoms

No Sex Drive (in Men)

Liver damage may cause erectile dysfunction [7] in men. During sex, nerve cells stimulate blood flow, causing the penis to expand and become erect for sexual performance. Liver diseases inhibit the flow of blood and nerve functions, which makes it impossible to perform sexually. Erectile dysfunction, otherwise called impotence, may occur as a reaction to medication for hepatic disease treatment.

Breast Enlargement in Men (Gynecomastia)

Liver diseases may trigger the high secretion of female hormones called oestrogen and a reduction in male hormones called testosterone. Excess oestrogen levels in men may cause an increase in breast [8] glands – a condition known as gynecomastia or man boobs. Breasts enlargement may be a reaction to malnutrition because testosterone levels drop if there is insufficient nutrition, while oestrogen remains the same. Liver disease patients tend to suffer malnutrition. Gynecomastia may also be a reaction to medication for treating hepatic diseases.
