Everything You Need To Know About Aspergillosis

Risk factors

The risks of developing aspergillosis depend on the overall health of an individual and the extent of mold exposure. The following make people more susceptible to aspergillosis:

Weakened immune system & Low white blood cell level

People that consume immune-suppressing medications after undergoing transplant surgery- especially bone marrow or stem cell transplants or people who have a particular cancer of the blood are more susceptible to invasive aspergillosis. People in the last stages of Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) may also be more susceptible.

People who have done chemotherapy, an organ transplant, or leukemia have lower white cell levels, making them more susceptible to invasive aspergillosis. Also, people with the chronic granulomatous disease (an inherited illness) that weakens the immune system cells are at higher risk of having aspergillosis.
