Cystic fibrosis, asthma, lung cavities & long term corticosteroid therapy
When you have asthma [6] or cystic fibrosis you are more susceptible to allergic reactions in response to aspergillosis. The presence of other lung problems that are long-standing or difficult to manage can also lead to an aspergilloma.
Presence of air spaces in the lungs makes people more susceptible to developing aspergillomas. If you notice any chest pains accompanied by coughing or wheezing, go to a doctor immediately.
The use of corticosteroids for a very long time may increase the chances of opportunistic infections, depending on the underlying sickness being treated and what kind of medications are used. Long term corticosteroid therapy is also a risk factor to other rare medical conditions.
