Medical procedures
A medical procedure could occasionally be required as part of the PE treatment. These may incorporate:
- Thrombus removal via a catheter: Large or potentially fatal clots may be treated with this treatment. A thin, flexible tube (catheter) is used by a clinician to provide medication to dissolve the clot or a tool to dislodge it.
- Vena cava filter: A filter may be inserted in the inferior vena cava [6], a major vein, for those who cannot tolerate blood thinners. Before they can enter your lungs, this filter may be able to stop blood clots from forming in other parts of your body.
