Follow-up visits

Throughout your rehabilitation, you will visit your doctor for routine follow-up appointments. These can start anywhere from two weeks to three months after your PE.
Your doctor will assess the state of your healing during these visits. They will also respond to any queries or worries you may have.
Your doctor uses blood tests to assess how well your body is responding to and how effectively your drugs are working. Unless you are experiencing symptoms like weariness or shortness of breath that are persistent, additional imaging is usually not required.
Your doctor will evaluate whether you need to continue taking blood-thinning drugs three months after being diagnosed with PE. You might not need to continue taking them if your risk of developing blood clots in the future is minimal.
