Brain Disorders and Other Chronic Diseases

Brain disorders like dementia, stroke, brain injury, and cerebral palsy are some of the common mental conditions that have adverse effects on the body’s proper functioning. [6] Aspiration pneumonia is caused by an impairment of the swallowing reflex, which is associated with brain injuries.
Anything that weakens the body’s immune defenses opens you up to the risk of getting pneumonia. These illnesses do not directly cause pneumonia, but it significantly increases your risk of getting infected. Conditions like HIV, asthma, diabetes, leukemia [7], lymphoma [8], heart, COPD [9], bronchiectasis [10], cystic fibrosis, and kidney diseases increase your risks of getting infected.
Alcoholics, smokers, and persons with poor eating habits whose the body lack enough vitamins and minerals are also susceptible to viral, bacterial, or fungal pneumonia infections. [11]
