Lyme Disease Stages

Late Disseminated Lyme

If you don’t receive medical treatment in the early stages, Lyme disease may move to the late disseminated stage which is more chronic. It usually happens several months or years after infection. In this stage, the bacteria is in every area of the body and you will begin to experience chronic arthritis in one or several joints. You will also experience heart and nerve disorders.

The common symptoms of this stage are:

  • The skin of the feet, hands, elbows, knees look like cigarette paper. This condition is clinically known as  acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans.
  • Inflammation of the spinal cord and brain may cause incomplete paralysis, seizures, [4] problems with the urinary bladder, complete paralysis, muscle fatigue,[5] intellectual disorder, and hearing problems.
  • Irregular heart rhythm[6]
  • Discharge, discoloration, and inflammation are all features of skin conditions.
  • Knee joint pain is the most common symptom.
