Lyme Disease Treatment Options

Administer antibiotics

Antibiotics are drugs that can kill microorganisms and cure bacterial infections. Antibiotic therapy is the currently approved treatment for Lyme disease. Most people treated using antibiotics recover quickly.

Some people develop syndromes after the infection has been successfully cured of their body system. Pain, fatigue, and difficulty thinking straight can continue for up to six months after treatment. This condition is called Post-Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome (PTLDS). There is no treatment for it. The problems can be alleviated through the use of pain relievers and other symptomatic treatments.
