Lyme Disease Treatment Options

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a type of treatment that involves exposure to pure oxygen at high pressure. It is used to treat festering wounds, gangrene, carbon monoxide poisoning, and infections where the tissues are starved of oxygen. It can stop the action of harmful bacteria and bolster the immune system. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is done in a room called a hyperbaric oxygen chamber.

A case study [2] from 2014 in Taiwan reported that hyperbaric oxygen was effective in treating Lyme disease in a patient who previously did not respond to antibiotic treatment. There isn’t much else scientific evidence on the effectiveness of hyperbaric oxygen treatment on Lyme disease apart from this. More research needs to be conducted to see if this treatment method is a viable option for treating Lyme disease.
