Lyme Disease Treatment Options

Essential oils

Essential oils are liquids extracted from plants. Many of them have antimicrobial activity and are used in many folk and home remedies.

Some people suggest using essential oils to treat Lyme disease because they can kill bacteria. An in vitro study [3] in 2017 assessed the potency of 34 essential oils in killing B. burgdorferi, the bacteria responsible for Lyme disease. Clove bud, cinnamon bark, and oregano essential oils effectively killed off the bacteria.

Sadly, studies on how essential oils work against Lyme disease in humans are limited. Essential oils can be toxic if taken orally, especially in large quantities. They are normally used topically or employed in aromatherapy, where the extracts are diffused and inhaled. It is not clear if these methods effectively treat Lyme disease.
