Symptoms of Lyme Disease

Rash

After one to two weeks of getting infected with the borreliosis bacterium, the first sign is a flat, circular rash that is described as the bulls-eye rash. This rash can appear anywhere on your body and has a red center, surrounded by a clear ring with a red circle surrounding it. The circle can be up to twelve inches or more. This rash can last up to several weeks before it disappears. The rash is usually flat and does not hurt or itch.

Lyme disease also causes skin lesions, usually behind the knee, in the armpit, or groin. The lesions are bright reds, with a different shape from the bull’s eye rash. They are distinguished by their round or oval shapes and sharply demarcated borders.
