Causes and Risk Factors of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

Age

People in their 60s or even older are at a higher risk of having non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma; as we grow old, our immune system can no longer function as it used to, making the body susceptible to different kinds of infection.

Gender

The relation of gender with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and its causes is still unknown, but scientists have discovered that men are at higher risk of having this lymphoma.

Race, geography, ethnicity

Scientists have discovered that non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is common in developed countries, the United States and countries in Europe have the highest rate of having lymphoma. Whites are at higher risk of having lymphoma compared to African Americans and Asian Americans.

Conclusion

Ultimately, the biggest factor responsible for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is suppression of the immune systems, so avoid using medications that reduce the strength of the lymphocytes, avoid smoking and alcohol.
