Alternatives to Vasectomy

For Men

Studies show that male condoms are the most used birth control method. It is a small sheath produced from latex or similar materials covering the penis during sex. It prevents the entrance of the sperm into the uterus. Female condoms also exist, but they are rarely used.

More research needs to be done on male birth controls to evaluate their efficiency. Also, male contraceptive options are still in the trial stage.

For Women

Women can use an IUD (intrauterine device) to control birth effectively. An IUD is a little, T-shaped device inserted into the uterus by your doctor. The levonorgestrel IUD is often inserted for 3 to 6 years and produces a little quantity daily to prevent you from getting pregnant.

Also, a copper T IUD is not a hormonal device that can stay in the uterus for long. If this IUD is left in the uterus for a long time, it can result in inflammation which disrupts the fertility of sperm cells.
