10 Distressing OCD Symptoms

Abhorrent Thoughts

OCD patients sometimes experience sudden and abhorrent thoughts of extreme violence or a flash of graphic and bizarre images that make the person question their mental state. These thoughts may be upsetting to the patient and may cause nightmares. These thoughts are intrusive and tend to take over the entire thinking space, making it impossible to focus your attention on something else.

Depression

OCD does not directly cause depression; however, the extreme fears and repulsive thoughts may be coupled with another kind of mental disorder known as depression. It is a mood disorder that triggers feelings [4] of sadness and loss of interest in things that once excited the person. It is usually accompanied by feelings of self-harm or suicide, which may be acted upon. A friend or family member who has self-inflicts burns or cuts must seek medical attention immediately.
