7 Most Common Types of Depression

Major depression

Major depression is also called a major depressive disorder, unipolar depression [1], or classic depression. Persons with major depression experience the symptoms every day. Just like most mental health conditions, it usually has little or nothing to do with what is going on in your life. This means that you can have the kind of life that seems perfect to others; a dream job, perfect family, and a lot of friends and still be depressed. Therefore, the absence of an obvious or specific cause of your depression doesn’t make it fake or easy to just forget about. Major depression is a severe type of depression with symptoms as:

  • Feelings of despondency and gloom
  • Getting too much or too little sleep
  • Lack of appetite or overeating
  • Fatigue and tiredness
  • Memory loss [2]
  • Lack of concentration
  • Constant anxiety and worry
  • Thoughts of suicide, death, or self harm
