7 Simple Mood Boosters For Your Mental Health

Try some aromatherapy

In some cases, the sense of smell communicates directly with your amygdala, an aspect of the brain responsible for controlling emotions. This is my doctors prescribe certain scents that trigger positive or nostalgic memories to treat anxiety and tension. The connection between the brain and sense of smell may also help describe why things that smell nice can lift your mood. Aromatherapy refers to the use of oils to enhance the mood or mental health. You don’t need to buy these essential oils, because you might already possess some mood-boosting fragrances in your house or office:

  • You can use soaps or lotion. Wash your hands or give your shoulders and arms a fast-scented rub.
  • You can smell something that reminds you of a particular person you miss
  • You can take a short walk along gardens to smell roses. There are several fragrant plants in gardens such as lavender, jasmine, honeysuckle, rosemary and sage.
  • Go to the kitchen to catch a smell such as vanilla, cinnamon or pumpkin spice. You can also inhale a slice of lemon and smell the fragrance
  • Prepare a cup of peppermint [1] or chamomile tea. Earl grey which have bergamot can also be used.
