Spiritual Depression: Symptoms, Causes Treatment and More

What Are the Symptoms of Depression?

The symptoms of depression are usually similar to spiritual depression. However, they are not linked to your belief or spirituality. It is usually difficult to identify symptoms of depression, especially when you have other things bothering you. It is important to note that depression is more than just feeling down.

According to experts, people with depression usually experience the following:

  • Sad or hopeless mood on more days than not.
  • Feelings of guilt or worthlessness, which might show up as negative self-talk.
  • A loss of energy or motivation.
  • Less interest in your regular activities.
  • Less interest in spending time with friends and loved ones.
  • Irrational anger [1] or frustration.
  • Inability to control emotions.
  • Fatigue [2], insomnia [3], and other sleep disorders.
  • Physical symptoms, such as stomach pain [4], pains, and aches.
  • Frequently thinking about suicide [5], dying, or death.

You may experience certain life conditions that can induce feelings of depression [6]. In most cases, spiritual depression may grow into something more severe or persistent.

Contrary to popular opinion, it is impossible to feel both spiritual and clinical depression at the same time. You may begin to feel frustrated or guilty when you start losing touch with the spiritual connection that strengthens you. Spiritual depression may also make you lose interest in daily activities.
