Options for Treating and Preventing Migraine Headaches

Causes

Migraine headaches have a wide variety of causes; some are related to environmental factors, while others are genetic.

  1. Drinks: Alcoholic drinks like wine have been known to cause migraine headaches when taken in large quantities. Also, excessive intake of caffeine can lead to migraine headaches.
  2. Stress: When one undergoes stress at work or home, it could ultimately lead to migraine headaches.
  3. Hormonal fluctuations in women: When hormones such as estrogen fluctuate in women, an effect could be migraine headaches, and sometimes even hormonal medications can lead to migraine headaches or, at worst, worsen them.
  4. Irregular sleep patterns: Managing your sleep pattern comes with consequences depending on how well or badly you manage it. Oversleeping is as likely to get your migraine headaches as missing sleep when you need it. In this case, migraine headaches are a way of your body telling you that it didn’t get its required rest when it needed to.
