Causes and risk factors of migraine with auras

The precise cause of migraines is not fully understood by medical practitioners.
The brain’s visual cortex, which is responsible for processing visual inputs, may experience an electrical activity wave that causes migraine with aura.
Triggers for migraine with aura include:
- intake of alcohol, particularly wine
- caffeine consumption
- Stress
- exposure to bright lights or intense sunlight
- food additives including monosodium glutamate, aged cheeses, and processed meals
- variations in female hormone levels (due to pregnancy, menstruation, or oral contraceptives, for example)
- overexertion or vigorous exercise
- either insufficient or excessive sleep
- medicines for high blood pressure include vasodilators and oral contraceptives.
- smells that are overpowering, like those of smoke, perfume, or gasoline
- changes in the weather or the atmospheric pressure
The risk of migraine, including migraine with aura, is increased by the following factors:
Gender: Compared to men, women have a two- to three-fold higher risk of developing migraines. Almost 1 in 5 females are affected by it.
Age: Those aged 18 to 44 are more likely to have this condition.
Family history: 90% or more of migraine sufferers have a family history of the ailment.
