How does Verapamil compare to other treatments used for migraines?

So many medications or therapy are given to treat migraines and acute symptoms. A review of studies showed that verapamil cannot reduce migraine episodes compared to placebo [6].

The American family physician prescribes other medications as the first alternative for migraine prevention with great proof of effectiveness. Little effectiveness has been recorded for verapamil on preventing migraines.

Conclusion

Verapamil should not be taken without the doctor’s prescription, although it is not efficient in preventing migraines. However, doctors can prescribe verapamil if other drugs do not work. Verapamil is very useful in treating hypertension (high blood pressure).
