Can You Clean Your Dentures Using Homemade Cleaner?

With any homemade denture cleanser, you must use caution. Warm water and hand or dish soap can be used to wash them, although this is not the suggested cleaning technique. If you run out of your usual cleaning supplies, a homemade cleaner might come in handy, but for long-term denture maintenance, it is recommended to utilize items that are readily available in stores.
Keep in mind the three objectives of denture cleaning and care. It is difficult for homemade cleaners to achieve these goals:
- Destroying bacteria
- Removing plaque
- Cleaning stains
- Preserving the dentures’ integrity
According to the same 2016 study mentioned above, the following products have no effect on plaque-causing microorganisms found in dentures:
- Table salt
- Vinegar
- Soaps
Additionally, it was discovered in the study that while mouthwash and isopropyl alcohol kill bacteria, they harm the dentures themselves.
