Loss of Taste: Causes and Treatments

Nervous system disorder that damages the nerves present in the brain or mouth such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease [2] and multiple sclerosis (MS) [3] could cause an alteration in the perception of taste. Several non-nervous systems, disorders such as cancer can change taste perception mostly during treatment. Any medical condition that damages the nerves in the nose, brain and mouth can lead to impaired taste buds or total loss of taste. Loss of taste is also a symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), salivary gland infection, sinusitis, poor dental hygiene. Loss of taste is also a major symptom of COVID-19.
