Early Signs And Symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis

Problems with Thinking, Learning, and Planning

Most people with MS have problems with thinking, planning, and learning. This is known as cognitive dysfunction. This include:

Difficulties in remembering and learning new things although, long-term memory is usually unaffected.

  • Slowness in processing lots of information or multitasking
  • Getting stuck up on words
  • Problems with processing and understanding visual information, such as reading maps
  • Difficulties in planning – patients often report knowing what they want to do but can’t grasp how to go about it.

Many of these problems are not peculiar to MS and can be caused by various other conditions like depression, anxiety, or even medicines.
