Diagnosis

Your healthcare provider will do various tests and exams to confirm the presence of multiple sclerosis. Your doctor may recommend tests like:
- Neurological exam: This exam observes your reflexes, sensory function, mental condition, and coordination.
- Evoked potential testing: This testing evaluates how fast your brain reacts to touch, sound, and sight stimulation.
- Concise clinical history: This is done to detect old symptoms, diagnoses and other information that can help your condition.
- Oligoclonal band screening: Your doctor may recommend this screening to observe your cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for oligoclonal bands (OCBs). OCBs are proteins that appear when the CNS is inflamed.
- Blood tests: Blood tests are done to observe and rule out other diseases that have the same symptoms as multiple sclerosis.
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI): MRI helps identify any injuries in the spinal cord and brain.
