Abscess Drainage

Abscess Drainage
Mumps frequently affects the parotid gland and may cause a parotid abscess. [7] An abscess is a swollen spot filled with pus and a rare symptom, resulting from mumps infection. If you develop an abscess, your doctors may need to drain it because unlike most infections, it is resistant to antibiotics.
It is an uncomplicated procedure that requires anesthetics like lidocaine or bupivacaine to numb the area. Before making an incision, your doctor will clean and sterilize the affected area. He makes a small incision over the abscess, allowing the pus to seep out. After draining, the medical practitioner sterilizes the spot and covers it with a wound dressing to absorb any more pus that is produced after draining. Depending on the size of the abscess and incision, you may or may not require stitching. The pus may be sent to the lab for examination to determine the infection if they aren’t sure as to what triggered it.
Abscesses are usually accompanied by pain and fever, and this procedure provides permanent relief. Healing may take up to fourteen days, depending on the size of the abscess.
