Vaccination
The mumps virus was a common infection in the United States of America before the vaccine was developed to curb its spread. Studies have shown that a single mumps vaccination protects approximately seventy-eight percent of individuals against the disease. [5] It is not advisable to refuse treatment for this condition because it has serious health complications, including meningitis, encephalitis, deafness, and orchitis.
While the vaccine may be effective in preventing infection, there are some persons that receiving it may be detrimental to their health. [6] Patients suffering from HIV, cancer, or AIDS should be exempted from vaccination. Persons with deathly allergies to egg white are also advised to refrain from being vaccinated.
