Certain Medications

Certain medications would increase your likelihood of having a muscle cramps. These medications disrupt the normal functioning of the muscles and increases your risk of having a muscle cramp. Some of these medications include pseudoephedrine used for nasal congestion, and stations used for treating high cholesterol. Check out a comprehensive list of other medications that cause muscle cramps [8].
Disorders
Nerve disorders can also account for muscle cramps. A nerve compression resulting from pinched nerves [9] or spinal cord injury [10] can cause muscle cramps. Pinched nerves are caused by a compression of nerves by tissues in the body. This accounts for the pain and tingling you feel around that muscle. Spinal cord injury on the other hand accounts for a damage in the spinal cord that affects nerve functions and coordination of the muscles. It could lead to a permanent disability of certain muscles, or difficulty to use these muscles optimally.
