What Causes Muscular Dystrophy (MD)?

Genes and Chromosomes

Genes are the basic units of Deoxyribonucleic acids (DNA) [6] that determine several characteristics of the body, such as the color of the hair and eyes.

Genes are present on strands called chromosomes. Every cell in the body has 23 pairs of chromosomes, which bear the genes people inherit from their parents. A chromosome from each pair is gotten from the father and the other from the father.

One of the most common types of muscular dystrophy is myotonic dystrophy. It is characterized by progressive muscle weakness that can affect several parts of the body such as the lungs and heart. Just like every other rare condition, it can take years before the correct diagnosis is gotten.
