Urinary problems

About 35% of people with Parkinson’s disease have urinary problems. You may leak urine, need to urinate more often, or find it difficult to pass urine. This is caused by a disruption in the autonomic nervous system. To reduce the need to go to the bathroom at night, you can:
- Stop drinking fluids 3 hours before bedtime.
- Go to the bathroom just before going to bed.
- Ask a doctor about medications to help manage urination.
Your doctor may prescribe these drugs:
- oxybutynin (Ditropan)
- tolterodine (Detrol)
- solifenacin (Vesicare)
- darifenacin (Enablex)
