11 Complications of Parkinson’s Disease

Urinary problems

About 35% of people with Parkinson’s disease have urinary problems. You may leak urine, need to urinate more often, or find it difficult to pass urine. This is caused by a disruption in the autonomic nervous system. To reduce the need to go to the bathroom at night, you can:

  • Stop drinking fluids 3 hours before bedtime.
  • Go to the bathroom just before going to bed.
  • Ask a doctor about medications to help manage urination.

Your doctor may prescribe these drugs:

  • oxybutynin (Ditropan)
  • tolterodine (Detrol)
  • solifenacin (Vesicare)
  • darifenacin (Enablex)
