Dopamine and Parkinson Disease- What to Know

What is dopamine?

This is a chemical found in the brain that acts as a neurotransmitter.it is produced in the substantia nigra [2] part of the brain and it is responsible for the movement of electrical signals through the brain. The body is capable of building this chemical from the activities done and the type of foods taken into the body.

Dopamine also plays a role as a body motivation and reward mechanism, when something pleasurable happens the brain becomes filled with this chemical and it encourages the body to perform the action over and over. Low levels of dopamine disrupts the nigrostriatal pathway and results in abnormal nerve firing patterns, which leads to movement problems.
