Who is likely to get schwannoma?

Schwannoma is more common and likely to affect people between the ages of 50 and 60. It is rare among children.
Schwannomas typically appear out of the blue in otherwise healthy individuals. A schwannoma may occasionally result from a hereditary disorder such neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2), schwannomatosis, or Carney complex. Individuals with these genetic disorders tend to have many schwannomas.
Schwannomas are rare. It affects not more than 200,000 people each year in the United States. About 60% of benign schwannomas are vestibular schwannomas (acoustic neuromas).
