Prognosis (outlook)

The prognosis is how likely the disease will affect you long term. For schwannoma, it depends on certain factors, such as:
- Where the tumor is located on your body
- The size of the tumor
- How much of the tumor was taken out during surgery (if applicable).
- Whether the tumor is benign or cancerous.
In general, the prognosis for schwannoma is usually good. In the majority of cases, there is not a recurrence of the tumor if it has been completely removed.
Most of the possible complications of schwannoma happen after the tumor removal surgery. The chances of postoperative complications is significantly higher in the following circumstances:
- If it is a large tumor
- If the tumor is located deep inside the body
- If the tumor originates from your ulnar nerve (one of the three main nerves in your arm).
